Each week, as part of our regular programming, RÚV English Radio hopes to assist with the learning of Icelandic.
In weekly shows, called Auðskilið - which means "easily understood" - you can follow along with a recent news story, written and read in a simple form of Icelandic.
Here's today's text, about the approaching new year celebrations - and what Iceland gets up to on 31 December:
Næsta vika er síðasta vika ársins 2025.
Það er nýársgleði til að hlakka til á Íslandi.
Margt fólk fer á áramótabrennu.
Mörg sveitarfélög skipuleggja viðburði.
Mjög margir kaupa líka flugelda.
Þeir sprengja flugeldana á gamlárskvöld, 31. desember.
Á því kvöldi horfa líka eiginlega allir á Íslandi á sjónvarpsþátt sem heitir Áramótaskaupið.
Það er gamanþáttur sem gerir grín að mörgu sem gerðist á árinu.
Flestir á Íslandi tala saman um hvað þeim fannst um þáttinn þegar þeir hittast á nýju ári.
Þátturinn er sýndur á RÚV.
Hann er líka með enskum texta á RÚV 2, og á netinu.
Þú getur horft á hann hvar sem er.
Eftir áramótaskaupið sprengir fólk fullt af flugeldum.
Himinninn er fullur af litum og látum um leið og nýju ári er fagnað á miðnætti.
Næsta fimmtudag, 1. janúar, hefst árið 2026.
