Today, RÚV English Radio is in Selfoss.
In the South Iceland town of Selfoss sits what is turning out to be a very successful architectural experiment.
Thirteen buildings, all reconstructions of thirteen historic houses from across the country, make up the first phase of the town's new "old" centre.
Learn more about the original buildings here - https://selfoss.com/explore/selfoss-centre/
The centre currently offers over 10 restaurants and a range of artisan shops.
Konungshúsið is just one of the new "old" buildings, in a hugely impressive development that is still only 20% complete. The original building was constructed at Þingvellir in 1907 to mark the visit of the Danish king. In 1928, it was moved and renovated as part of the 1000th anniversary celebrations of the Icelandic parliament. In 1970, a tragic fire destroyed the building and led to the deaths of then prime minister Bjarni Benediktsson, his wife Sigríður Björnsdóttir, and their young grandson.
Darren met Guðjón Arngrímsson, whose original vision for the centre has come to life, in Konungshúsið, to find out more.
