Today, RÚV English Radio is in Vík, on Iceland's south coast, in the municipality of Mýrdalshreppur.
The English Speaking Council of Mýrdalshreppur (https://www.vik.is/is/mannlif/ithrottastarf/enskumaelandi-rad) (https://www.ruv.is/english/2024-04-26-women-of-foreign-origin-praise-myrdalshreppurs-english-initiative-411300) was established in 2022 in the hope of increasing the influence of newcomers in the municipality, and increasing opportunities to participate in committee work and policy-making. It allows those new to the area who don't yet speak Icelandic to get involved and shape policy - not least, as Darren hears from council member Hilary Tricker, on improving access to Icelandic language learning!
