RÚV English Radio looks ahead to a very special day in the capital, and across the country.
On National Day, June 17, lots will be happening to mark the passing of 80 years since Iceland became a republic - and you're invited.
A ceremony, hosted by Alþingi and the Prime Minister's Office, begins at Austurvöllur at 11:10am and will be broadcast on RÚV (https://www.ruv.is/sjonvarp/dagskra/ruv/2024-06-17/5376709).
The outgoing President of Iceland, Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, will lay a wreath on behalf of the Icelandic people at the monument of Jón Sigurðsson, and the Prime Minister, Bjarni Benediktsson, will give a speech.
But that's just the start of a day of fun and celebrations, right across the country.
