Episode 53 - THE FUTURE, PAST AND PRESENT OF AKUREYRI AIRPORT

Today on The RÚV English Podcast, Darren's guest is aviation journalist Andrei Menshenin, making a return visit to the show.

Iceland's northern capital was first served by air in 1928 - or perhaps more accurately, by air and sea, as the first services saw seaplanes land on the water at Eyjafjörður near downtown Akureyri. It wasn't until the 1950s that construction of an airport began.

Andrei tells Darren about the history of flight to Iceland's north, the current plans to expand Akureyri Airport further, and what are hopefully only temporary difficulties for two airlines looking to expand international flights to and from the airport.

(And very special thanks to Andrei for coming in to the show on his birthday!)
