The Environment and Planning Council has approved the removal of 700 to 900 more trees in Öskjuhlíð as part of the tree felling for aviation safety reasons. The trees must be cut down to keep the east-west runway at Reykjavik Airport open.

The Icelandic Transport Authority (Samgöngustofa) has lifted the ban on use of the east–west runway at Reykjavík Airport. Around 1,600 trees have now been felled in Öskjuhlíð, which aviation authorities had deemed a threat to flight safety.
