"It's just the biggest we've ever seen"
Giant icebergs have been seen by Strandir, in the mouth of Húnaflói, in the Westfjords. One local says that such bergs are rare, but amazing to see.
Pálmar Ragnarsson took this video of the icebergs.
Ragnar Torfason, Pálmar's father, born and raised in the area, said that he had decided to sail with a fourth person out to the island in a tube boat, but had drifted somewhat out into the bay, where he saw the icebergs.
He thought one was about thirty metres tall.
"It's just the biggest iceberg we've ever seen here, I think," said Ragnar.
"It was amazing to be there by the side."
The Iceland Met Office's sea ice watch had previously reported an iceberg last Sunday, north of the mouth of Húnaflói. They also say there is no continuous sea ice in the Greenland Strait, but some individual icebergs.
