According to a new opinion poll, a slight plurality oppose whaling. Support has decreased since last year. The Minister of Food has not yet said the temporary ban, which expires at the end of the end of the month, will be extended.

The Minister of Food has temporarily suspended planned whaling until August 31. The hunt was supposed to start tomorrow. The minister said last month that there was no legal basis for revoking the license this season.

The direct economic impact of whaling is not significant in a  wider economic context, according to a new report commissioned by the Ministry of Food. Whaling also has little or no impact on tourism.
